Lincolnshire law firm wins cyber accreditation
Leading Lincolnshire law firm Hodgkinsons has been awarded cyber accreditation from the Government-backed scheme Cyber Essentials, in a further move to ensure that client data and legal documents are protected from hackers in a cyber attack.
The award underlines Hodgkinsons’ commitment to cyber security and safeguarding client data.
Cyber Essentials is a set of basic technical controls to help organisations protect themselves from common online security threats. IT such as client software and document management systems may be vulnerable to cyber attacks.
“With data now more valuable than gold, it is important for firms who handle sensitive data to do so in the safest way possible,” said Hodgkinsons.
“By achieving this accreditation, Hodgkinsons reassure their customers that they have put the correct measures in place to avoid common cyber threats or hacking.
“When you instruct Hodgkinsons for your legal matters – whether it is Personal Injury or Conveyancing – you are ensuring that your data will be securely processed and stored on an up-to-date device, with software in place to protect against viruses and other malware to the highest degree.”
The firm added that the Cyber Essentials Accreditation certified that Hodgkinsons configured and used a firewall to protect all of their devices to ensure that all connections were “safe and trusted”, to prevents data being transferred to an untrusted public or Wi-Fi network, which could potentially be hacked.
This is secured even further through the implementation of methods to defend against malware.
In efforts to safeguard client data, Hodgkinsons said it only uses the necessary software needed – in doing so, the firm has immediate knowledge of where data will be stored if access is required and administration rights are only issued to the necessary people.
“Even then, this user has limited control over what they can do with the accounts,” said Hodgkinsons.
The firm added that, by having cyber security measures in place, Hodgkinsons hoped to reassure its clients that it is working consistently to secure its IT against cyber-attacks.
“This accreditation also allows the firm’s cyber security level to be transparent, giving both potential and current clients reassurance that Hodgkinsons takes the safety of their clients’ data very seriously,” the firm added.
