Lodders continues to expand Dispute Resolution legal team

1106/2018

Midlands law firm Lodders has expanded its Dispute Resolution team to meet an increasing number of new instructions.

The team now includes three new litigation lawyers, Tom Ellis, Lauren Smith and Caroline Walford-Cowley.

Lodders was established in Stratford-Upon-Avon in Warwickshire more than 230 years ago and now also has offices in Henley-in Arden, Warwickshire, Cheltenham in Gloucestershire and in Birmingham. The office in Cheltenham and the “fast-growing” Birmingham office enable Lodders to offer services to clients in South Warwickshire, the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire.

Of the three new appointees, Tom Ellis trained and qualified at Mayer Brown International in London, before moving in 2010 to what became Clyde & Co, where he became senior associate in 2015. He has principally been involved in professional negligence disputes valued at up to around £10 million.

Lauren Smith trained at Russell & Co and worked as a solicitor in the litigation department. Previously she worked at Plymouth firm Womble Bond Dickinson, where she built her litigation and dispute resolution skills, including working in debt recovery as part of the legal team of a major utility company, said Lodders.

Caroline Walford-Cowley joins Lodders’ Dispute Resolution team after eight years at Salisbury-based firm Wilsons Solicitors, where she specialised in contentious trust and probate work, after qualifying with the firm. A member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists, she has previously worked in London for an investment bank and at global law firm Linklaters, in their Risk and Anti-Money Laundering teams, while studying for the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law.

Partner and head of Lodders dispute resolution team, Jane Senior said:

“Disputes occur in both business and personal matters and it is important to have the very best legal team onside to ensure a speedy and favourable resolution.

“Demand for our range of dispute resolution services has grown significantly over the last 18 months in particular – and to support this and our ambitious plans for continued expansion, we have made these important additions to our team.”

Lodders was recently named as winner of the Best Private Client Legal Team at the sixth Annual Wealth Adviser Awards in London.

Head of the Private Client team, Martin Green, said:

“With a dedicated team, our private client services include all aspects of wills, trusts, estates and tax planning and care and capacity matters.

“Our strength lies in the skills and exceptional client service of our extensive team, that covers many areas of specialisation – six of our team are members of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and we were also one of the founder members of the Solicitors for the Elderly group.

“With our strength in depth and ability to offer city-centre expertise and service levels in regional locations, our reputation continues to grow. This most recent award is further recognition of the whole team’s capability.”
