Star Legal continues expansion with Midlands merger
National law firm Star Legal has expanded into the Midlands through a merger with Walsall-based CMHT Solicitors.
Star Legal has its headquarters in Bristol. West Midlands-based CMHT instructed the business advisory and brokerage company Ortus Group to advise on its options for future planning, which led to the merger.
Joint managing partner of Star Legal, Ian Foster, said:
“We are delighted that the lawyers and staff of CMHT are joining Star Legal. I am sure they will become a valuable addition to the Star Legal practice in the Midlands and will bring other key skills, including their strong care and mental health practices.
“Ortus Group have been very professional in their approach, always ready to assist when required to progress the deal.”
Philip Bellshaw of CMHT added:
“As a three-partner provincial solicitors' practice we have recognised for a while the potential benefits of being part of a larger organisation, to ease the ever-increasing burden of regulatory compliance, offer greater stability to our staff, an opportunity for succession planning; and – most importantly – to ensure we can continue to deliver a first-class service to our clients.
“We believe all of these objectives will be enabled by us joining the Star Legal group – and we look forward to our future with them with confidence and a sense of renewed purpose.
“Dealing with Ortus Group – who brokered the deal – has been a pleasure from start to finish, as their wealth of knowledge of such transactions has been a constant guide and reassurance throughout the process.”
In February, Star Legal announced that its Cheltenham office had merged with one of the Cotswolds’ leading firms of solicitors, Pinkerton Leeke & Co –
and its residential conveyancing division, Redwood Burt.
A spokesman for Star Legal said:
“This is a significant enhancement to our existing expertise in residential and commercial property law, wills and probate, powers of attorney and divorce and family law.
“The teams at Pinkerton Leeke & Co and Redwood Burt are well known in Gloucestershire’s legal community, with an outstanding reputation both for their legal knowledge and experience – and their personable approach to providing client services.
“They are a very welcome addition to Star Legal in Cheltenham, where they look forward to continuing to serve their existing client base, as well as exploring and creating new opportunities in the local legal market.”
