Newly qualified property solicitor started legal career as Coodes Solicitors’ office junior
A newly qualified junior solicitor at South West law firm Coodes Solicitors started his career with the firm in a legal support role, having joined as an office junior and receptionist.
Mark Bailey joined the firm in 2010 after completing work experience at Coodes’ Holsworth office and taking his A levels. He began to study to become a solicitor while working – and initially qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive, advising client on buying and selling property in the area.
Coodes gave Mark study leave and he completed a law degree at De Montford University in Leicester, visiting the campus around five times a year while continuing to work for Coodes. He then took a year’s sabbatical from the firm and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of West England, which he passed with Distinction.
He is now hoping to complete a Master’s degree in Law and will work with the firm’s Commercial Property team at its Truro office, supporting businesses across the region to buy and sell property.
“It was always the plan to qualify as a solicitor, but it was a challenge to juggle my studies around a busy caseload,” said Mark.
“I couldn’t possibly have achieved my ambitions without the support of Coodes – I am very grateful to everyone here who has helped me along the way.
“My plan now is to work hard and perfect my trade – I am working with a great commercial property team where each solicitor has their own expertise.”
Coodes Solicitors Partner and Rural Services Team Leader Pam Johns recruited Mark as an office junior in 2010 and added:
“It was obvious from very early on that Mark had a real interest in the law –
and particularly in property and agriculture. I think clients like the fact he has worked his way up and that he understands their needs because of his own farming background.
“I am thrilled for him – I had no doubt that he would do it, but I am very proud to see him qualify.”
Coodes’ commercial property department helps businesses buy and sell property across Cornwall and Devon and has particular expertise in agriculture. The firm also advises on issues such as development land, commercial tenancies and planning.
Partner and Head of Commercial Property Paula Dunkley congratulated Mark Bailey on qualifying as a solicitor and added:
“The commercial property team is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to have him as our newest member.
“Coodes has a great track record of spotting potential and nurturing talent within the firm – Mark’s journey is a great example of how we support people early in their career.”
