Paralegal awards to honour “backbone” of legal profession

Awards celebrating those working in paralegal jobs are to be presented at this year’s National Paralegal Awards, currently to be held on 27 March at a black-tie event at the Connaught Rooms in central London.
The Professional Paralegal Register has now announced the finalists from 16 individual and business categories that have been shortlisted for the 2020 National Paralegal Awards – the independent judging panel comprised 17 legal and business professionals and was overseen by Head Judge, Amir Ali, Chairman of the CCUA, who said:
“I and the judging panel were very impressed by the high standard of entries shortlisted – there are many very talented paralegals and firms dedicated to supporting the development of the profession.
“Paralegals are the backbone of the legal sector – often at the coalface – who receive little or no recognition for the vital role they perform within the industry; and professional awards such as these are a fantastic opportunity to congratulate all finalists on their achievements and successes.”
A recent 2019 annual salary survey of the legal profession found that those in paralegal jobs earned an average salary of 28,011 in 2019, with 52% of paralegals reporting they received a pay rise last year. A total of 32% also received a bonus.
There is still an overall gender pay gap of 28% in the legal profession, however – with male paralegals earning on average 6% more than their female counterparts.
Commenting on the paralegal awards, Managing Director of the Professional Paralegal Register, Rita Leat said:
“Congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted for the National Paralegal Awards – yet again, the number of high-quality entries we received represents the breadth and range of paralegal activity and excellent work undertaken in the UK.
“Thank you to our judges for their work – and we look forward to meeting the finalists and our sponsors at our awards gala.”
This year’s headline sponsor of the National Paralegal Awards is Fraser and Fraser. Categories were sponsored by a range of businesses working with the legal sector and legal membership organisations, including The Institute of Paralegals, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.
The Law Support Group covers all areas of recruitment – from support staff to fee-earner level recruitment – for both regional and international banking and law firms here in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
